After successful studies of

Automation technology

at "FH Niederrhein" I started in an engeneering office to make experiences. It offered a large scale of different projects together with a great number of ideas. Besides ordered developments we could realize own projects. From HW-design and layout via target-SW upto programs for PCs: All stuff coming out of one source. The last 5½ years I worked for only one customer and in this customer's office. The working environment was comfortable, and systems' complexity was impressing. For a short list of project look at the right side.

Incomplete list of projects:

  • Temperature-dependent fan speed regulation (with PC-Interface), 1 KB mask code (!)
  • 80186-subsystem as PC-card
  • EPROM-Simulator (PC loads programs into a targetsystem with SRAM as EPROM-replacement for other targets)
  • Security access system (distributed autonomous systems with central PC)
  • Extendable device to collect operating data
  • SCSI-Controller (HW-Design)
  • SW for phones in Siemens-Euroset-series

So I came to Siemens, into the thick of booming mobile-business. Since that I work in dep. DeviceLayer, that part of SW-development that controls the HW. After introduction phase, my concentration went more and more towards the requirements of our production lines. The prospects of that position were fascinating for me (look right side). Furthermore I could continue my work on both sides, either embedded as well as PC-side.

Additionally I took over the task of a projectleader. As a result of our temawork, the throughput of our production lines could be improved although test-amount was also increasing. The development cycles could be significantly improved by introducing the apporach "scripts for everybody". Due to modern development methods ("agile SW-development") the process of development could be made faster, more flexible and transparent.

I'm open-minded about new tasks and requirements.

Some interesting facts about my time working in the mobile world:

  • Entrance during legendary "Siemens 25th" generation
  • Worldwide standards (e.g. GSM)
  • Modern development environments
  • International teams
  • Complex systems
    • Integration from many 3rd parties
    • Plattform-development
    • A great set of variants
  • High volume of produced devices (upto 50 mill. per year)
